Anna Claire Vollers reports on health care policy for Stateline, where she covers issues ranging from reproductive health to substance use to private equity’s involvement in hospitals.
She has nearly 20 years’ experience as a journalist in the American South. Prior to joining Stateline in July 2023, Anna Claire worked for 15 years at AL.com, the largest news site in Alabama, where she reported on Alabama’s maternal health crisis, unregulated day cares, teen boot camps, sexual harassment and family-friendly workplace reforms.
Awards include the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award for feature reporting, and Story of the Year from the Alabama Associated Press Media Editors. She’s been interviewed about her work on national outlets including CNN, MSNBC and NPR’s All Things Considered. The Solutions Journalism Network awarded her a 2022 health equity grant to support her work covering midwifery in the South.
She lives in Alabama with her husband, their three sons and a menagerie of pets.
